Culture is Challenging.. :(

In our everyday lives, popular culture is always around us. Cultures have ways of challenging people to get out into the world and explore each other's perspectives. Perspectives are different for everyone, so when we learn and change our views on what we learn, popular culture is testing us in that very moment. In the video "Clear Eyes on the Full Heart of Popular Culture" Jamie states that popular culture has people confronting each other on their views everyday. Just by pulling a certain view of life can set something off that will have people confronting each other.    She gives examples of the areas of where confrontation mostly happens, and that is Facebook or any other comment thread. This is important because people can confront others about what they don't believe, and what they do believe. It's just a matter of how people view things.  She then says something about confidence and how it has better value than having a skill. People would probably even discuss this over and have their own views. So it's always important to listen to another person's views and respect their views on a certain topic, rather than pushing your views onto them. A positive way of popular culture challenging us would be finding other's views on life and then realizing that you have a similar outlook on life. It gets us out of our comfort zones everyday. It allows us to connect with people and to have basic interactions with them. So when popular culture allows us to actually interact and get to know people, it helps us in the long run.  But negatively, popular culture can start arguments. This may be due to someone not agreeing to what someone is saying. Then when they keep bickering about it, it can grow to a much bigger problem. Problems being physical, mental or emotional abuse. So with that, popular culture can really challenge our relationships with others and how people view us as a person.

  1. There was one quote that stuck out to me in your blog post, “Perspectives are different for everyone, so when we learn and change our views on what we learn, popular culture is testing us in that very moment.” This is an interesting idea; popular culture provides a platform to challenge what we originally thought on a subject. When we are forced to question our thoughts or views, popular culture is challenging us to change our outlook, which is very interesting! I think it’s important to be willing to change our perspectives or ideas at any given moment because we might be exposed to something new from popular culture since it’s always present in our lives!

  2. I didn't think about Social Media's specific role in challenging us until I read this. I know it was in the video, but I never thought about the fact that having an online network to send out idea's helps us put up opinions that may have seemed so far out there that we didn't want to face the embarrassment and backlash. Now people can put up opinions they want judged or ideas to make others question and if it's not accepted they can just walk away and act like it never happened.
