Social media is everywhere around you, yet you never notice the most common ones. For example, there is Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, even Youtube!
In the video Generation Like, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube are seen multiple times. Facebook is meant to meet friends and share everything in your life, mostly positive. Twitter is a place where news, fake and real is shared. Whether it is a new movie coming out, or the president being injured in a bombing. Youtube is then a place where videos can be shared. These videos can be clickbait, truthful, or again, fake.
Facebook is seen at the middle beginning of the video. There is a group of teenagers around a table, all on their computers on this site, Facebook. They are mainly focusing on each other's profile pictures and their statuses. As you know, your profile picture is your identity, who you perceive yourself to others on the internet. And what you say in your status can also give more identity of a person. So if you have a really good photo, that photo will perceive you as someone who is normally looking. But if you or a friend posts an abnormal photo of you, it would change your identity of what others see of you. Likes, shares, and comments come into the play as you post anything. They say the more likes you have, the more popular you are. So when one of the girls say she’s gotten a huge amount of likes a photo, even the camera crew is surprised.
Youtube is a big part of this video and honestly, it's not surprising. Youtube is a huge community of a bunch of different categories of all kinds of videos. Clickbait and trending videos are always on youtube, no matter where you look. Tyler Oakley used the formatting at first to show what he liked on youtube and gave actual opinions on products that he showed. Youtube can also be used for advertising as well, but it's mostly for personal use. Tyler Oakley introduces his subscribers to multiple small channels, which is called collaborating. And his subscribers may choose to subscribe to that person if they may.
Twitter is used to spread news, drama, or just random things around. Ceili and her friends used Twitter on a daily basis over the movie The Hunger Games. Ceili grew so popular, that even the page for The Hunger Games tagged her and responded to her. She even became more popular because of the response from their page. People looked up to her for more news and responses to the books and movies from the series.
But not all social media is good for everyone. Cyberbullying, harassment, and harmful comments, videos, and profiles are all over the social media world. People could seriously harm themselves if someone were to say something very insulting to them. Youtubers, tweeters, and vloggers can take things seriously and their mental health can deteriorate. Also, people look good on the internet, sometimes take it too far and start to eat less, physically hurting themselves, and losing a lot of weight just to look like someone who has a lot of followers to gain likes and "fame”. So social media can be good, but it can have its bad parts, so be safe in the world, and take care of your personal life.
Youtube was a very large part of that video, I enjoyed seeing what all goes into each aspect of media. People do really only show highlight reels of their lives, their best moments and it portrays the wrong idea to their audience.
